    FWIW, I don’t believe LePage is constitutionally eligible to be VP

  2. Nick June 4, 2016 at 12:25 pm #

    @Ben – LePage was born in Maine.

    Will you be adding Darrell Castle and the Constitution Party?

  5. streiner June 4, 2016 at 11:06 pm #

    Is there an ETA on when PR will be implemented in general elections? I believe you said on a to-do list and I was wondering if it would be this update.

    Thanks

  6. Falcon June 5, 2016 at 4:36 am #

    Will you update Hillarys pic also?

  7. Cvi June 5, 2016 at 5:48 pm #

    Any chance you can add Tulsi Gabbard as a VP on the Dems side? She would be a likely pick for Sanders supporters.

  8. Dallas June 5, 2016 at 9:26 pm #

    I noticed with the last update, after a surrogate is created, they automatically use up points for spin. I think you mentioned something about this, but I find it rather frustrating given that the surrogates have rather low points, so they stop working for the camp sooner vs. the prior update.

  9. Marcus June 6, 2016 at 1:28 am #

    Seems like Bill Clinton will have more than 25 points.

  10. Tayya June 6, 2016 at 10:03 am #

    Poor Chafee and Pataki – still not included!

  11. Mathew June 6, 2016 at 8:06 pm #

    Will you also update the polls for the Libertarian Party, which currently have over 10%?

  12. Arjav Rawal June 6, 2016 at 8:48 pm #

    Top two primaries are still not included in Congress Infinity (this has a huge impact on races in California, i.e. Mike Honda v Ro Khanna and such)

  13. anthony_270admin June 7, 2016 at 6:59 pm #

    @DJH re Constitution Party,

    I would like to add them, we’ll see.

    @Streiner re PR in general elections,

    It’s on the to-do list, but I can’t say more than that at this point.

    @Falcon re Hillary’s image,

    I think it’s fine as is, from when she was Sec. of State.

    When I play in the democratic primaries, it always seems like Martin O’Malley (Or Jim Webb, if O’Malley is turned off) surges and wins in Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada, and then just fizzles out.

    @EAY, thanks for this feedback. I’m going to look carefully at this sort of situation when Favorability is added.

  25. Rophil June 10, 2016 at 1:05 pm #

    Could you add Trump to the 2012 campaign? It would be so funny

  26. Jonathan June 10, 2016 at 1:16 pm #

    @Anthony

    Should the discord within the Democratic, and especially Republican Parties, somehow be implemented in the game? I think so. I think Trump, especially, should have some sort of internal discord event with him. Possibly one slightly to Cruz as well. I think Clinton needs one if Sanders or a hypothetical Warren candidacy is in the game.

    In the event the Republican Convention has a walk out. How can that be implemented? Such an implementation could also be used in the 1860 and 1912 campaigns.

  27. EdgarAllenYolo June 10, 2016 at 3:29 pm #

    Not necessarily talking about this update (There’s only so much you can add in so little time after all), but you should either add 2000 or 1988 as a future scenario.

  28. anthony_270admin June 10, 2016 at 5:14 pm #

    – Main Screen > Activities > can now do leader, vice-leader, and surrogate activities using drop-down box

  29. anthony_270admin June 10, 2016 at 5:38 pm #

    @Rophil re Trump,

    Good idea! Might get added when 2012 is updated.

  30. anthony_270admin June 10, 2016 at 5:40 pm #

    @Jonathan re internal discord,

    Hmmm … we’ll see.

  31. anthony_270admin June 10, 2016 at 5:42 pm #

    @EAY re 2000 and 1988,

    2000 is top of the list of campaigns to be added.

  32. Jonathan June 10, 2016 at 10:01 pm #

    @Anthony

    I think the big speech Romney gave bashing Trump a few months ago should be added, even if it is ineffective, since it was covered by the media throughout a week.

    I just don’t think the game would accurately reflect the 2016 election without the internal critics of Trump and Clinton being more pronounced in this scenario, especially by high profile politicians–Paul Ryan, Lindsey Graham, etc.

    There’s also the protesters routinely showing up at Trump events, which are covered.

    For Clinton, you have the NeverHillary movement.

    I’ll probably add these events if you don’t, but I think they should probably be programmed into the official scenario.

    I feel like these are constantly headlining CNN, Huffington Post, etc.

  33. Kevin June 10, 2016 at 11:12 pm #

    You should make it easier when you try to add a picture.

  34. Kevin June 10, 2016 at 11:25 pm #

    Also, I think you should make a primary live, like in the general election.

  35. Jesse H Johnson June 11, 2016 at 8:25 am #

    When I create a scenario for 2016 I want it to start on Jan 1st 2015, but there are no percentages and I’m faced with a white, blank map. How can I fix this?

  36. anthony_270admin June 11, 2016 at 5:01 pm #

    – Barnstorming > can barnstorm in region 5 times before incur penalty for barnstorming too much recently, but now regenerates 1 time per day

  37. anthony_270admin June 11, 2016 at 5:27 pm #

    @Jonathan,

    The protesters could fairly straightforwardly be added to the game – I’ll see.

  38. anthony_270admin June 11, 2016 at 5:28 pm #

    @Kevin re live primaries,

    Thanks for this feedback – it’s one that I get fairly often, and it might happen.

  39. anthony_270admin June 11, 2016 at 5:31 pm #

    @Jesse,

    If it’s using polling for the primaries (which is will if it’s based on the official campaign), you will have to add polling data for that start date (or just before).

  40. Jeff June 15, 2016 at 4:58 pm #

    So does this mean that you can keep barnstorming more than in past versions? That would be cool. I never really knew what the “tipping point” was in the past…

  41. anthony_270admin June 16, 2016 at 6:36 pm #

    @Jeff,

    If means that if you give it a few days off, you can return to Barnstorming at full power. So, effectively, yes.

  42. Jack June 16, 2016 at 10:08 pm #

    A question on the upcoming favorability feature – will/can it incorporate demographic differences? Race played such a huge role in the Democratic primary this year, and gender will probably be more important in the 2016 general than the 2012. Adding those would make the game be a little more realistic – a candidate with Trump’s immigration stance should not be able to be competitive in a state like New Mexico in the general.

  43. Jack June 16, 2016 at 10:13 pm #

    Also, do you have an ETA on an update to the campaign issues? I feel that race relations, LGBT rights, Wall St. reform, drug laws, and criminal justice reform should all be considered as new issues. Free trade needs to be reworked to show heightened opposition among conservatives, and Environment should be referencing Paris instead of Kyoto now.

    In general I feel like (at least some) Americans have shifted to the left on many issues as well. A public healthcare system should no longer be considered “far-left” for the game, for example.

  44. Dylan June 16, 2016 at 11:21 pm #

    Another possible issue is, “The primary system”. Both Sanders and Trump have called for reforms to the electoral process, while Cruz and Hillary have said the system works fine as it is. I feel it’ll be interesting to have this as an issue on the game since it helps highlight who ‘is the establishment’ and who isn’t.

  45. Cvi June 17, 2016 at 4:43 pm #

    Is there anyway to possibly add a feature where candidates could pick a VP that isn’t with there party? I know you can offer across party lines during the election but it would be nice if you could add them when you’re creating characters or if they endorse you. Also Condi Rice as a VP choice for Trump and maybe Jeb too since its been floated out there.

  46. AJ June 21, 2016 at 11:42 am #

    I think ads should become more expensive as time goes on, during the primary I can buy an ad in New Hampshire for about $22,000 in October, and it’s still the same price a week before the primary, as election day get closer TV stations usually start charging more, I think that should be reflected in the game.

    Round by Round on conventions?

    Is this what I think it is? 😀

    Also will the Brexit vote be an event, possibly have it shift the public perception of free trade to the left(and give Trump a boost-though too early to see if he will have one).

  50. anthony_270admin June 25, 2016 at 5:15 pm #

    @Dylan,

    The round-by-round mechanics are very simple (candidates drop out one by one, all their delegates go to another candidate who has the closest affinity), but it sets things up for negotiating in some future version.

  51. anthony_270admin June 25, 2016 at 5:42 pm #

    @AJ re ads pricing,

    You’re right – we’ll see.

  52. anthony_270admin June 25, 2016 at 6:30 pm #

    @Jack re demographics,

    Yes, Favorability will go with Voter Blocks, which can be defined however a campaign designer would like (age, religion, ethnicity, and so on).

  53. SirLagsalott June 26, 2016 at 7:34 am #

    The reason that there’s always the sudden surge of low-polling candidates in early states is because every candidate piles up on the frontrunner. It’s most noticeable in the Republican primaries when there are a lot of candidates, and leads to situations like Bobby Jindal winning Iowa, New Hampshire, but when going to the high-density Super Tuesday primaries the frontrunners return to prominence. Basically, when the candidates focus on a state, they all attack the person leading in the polls, which leads to front-runners having absurdly low numbers like 0.2% in a state even if they have 24% nationally. I’ve even had -30 momentum in one state because of this issue, effectively meaning I cannot step foot in that state. Please fix this issue.

  54. Caleb June 26, 2016 at 10:03 am #

    Yeah, I know what you’re talking about too. It’s odd playing as say Bernie Sanders, and O’Malley wins Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada. and then nothing ever again after that because in reality he was polling under 2 percent. Maybe there should be some system where once you’re deeply established in a state, you lose momentum slower?

  55. KD Hucke June 26, 2016 at 3:19 pm #

    I find it disappointing that when the user’s candidate is not nominated the game ends abruptly. Isn’t it possible to add an option to continue playing with the eventual nominated candidate through the general election campaign?

  56. Rophil June 27, 2016 at 4:00 am #

    I totally agree with KD Hucke !

  57. anthony_270admin June 27, 2016 at 1:08 pm #

    @KD Hucke,

    Yes – probably will be added for next ‘sneak peek’.

  58. anthony_270admin June 27, 2016 at 1:12 pm #

    @SirLagsalott,

    People piling up on the leader in an early state is usually what happens (and leads to candidates like Santorum winning). You’re right about the dynamic not being quite right though, and I’ll be looking closely at this when Favorability is implemented.

  59. Jonathan June 29, 2016 at 11:44 am #

    @Anthony
    Two things:

    1) Should the Democrats be stronger in the general election, considering the election is half over, and Clinton is leading in every poll, every swing state, etc? I know you don’t like Nate Silver as much as most people do, but he has her at 79% chance of victory to Trump’s 20%. At the moment I can’t find any significant poll that would have Trump ahead or even for the general election. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/fivethirtyeights-nate-silver-predicts-hillary-clinton-wins-election/story?id=40213871

    2) I was wondering if more could be done with the speeches in the game. For instance, maybe include major speaking events, which could include multiple candidates. Let’s say an NRA or environmental gathering. Whoever does best at the event, gets a boost towards endorsement by any endorser who’s single issue is guns, environment, etc. Likewise, maybe the individual speeches could work more towards winning endorsements by altering their platform to that surrogates view on that issue. For instance, let’s say a candidate wants to win over the NRA, but he or she is center-right on guns, and not right (or whatever the NRA is). Perhaps the NRA (or whatever single-issue endorser) will offer an immediate endorsement if the candidate will move their platform to their liking. This could also be the case with other potential surrogates, Warren and Sanders for Clinton, for instance. Clinton will have to move enough to the left to win them over.

  60. Jonathan June 29, 2016 at 1:45 pm #

    Here’s his election forecast: http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2016-election-forecast/

  61. anthony_270admin June 29, 2016 at 11:31 pm #

    @Jonathan,

    He’s saying ‘as of right now’, an important caveat. He was very good at predicting the state-by-state outcomes of the 2012 (and 2008) GE results, but the state-by-state predictions he made that people talk about were done the day before (or day of) the elections. We’re still > 4 months out.

    Obviously, he got the Trump call almost totally wrong for the primaries (to be fair, he was in the majority on this).

    What I find humorous is how he ascribes %s to his predictions, to give a veneer of scientific respectability to it. The %s mean nothing – they are basically untestable.

    Another point. I’m not clear why you think the election is half over – Clinton just wrapped up her primaries campaign 3 weeks ago, and I would say Trump has just fully transitioned to general election mode (formally removing Lewandowski, shifting gears on fundraising, merging operations with the RNC, and so on). The general public typically doesn’t start focusing in until the conventions, then forgets about it until sometime in September.

    In Canada, our campaigns are typically about 45 days long!

    Re 2. Yes, I think more could be done with the speeches – we’ll see. Thanks for this.

    @Anthony
    No pressure since it’s major changes, but do you know if the updates involving favorability and voting blocs will be done by August/September?

  64. anthony_270admin June 30, 2016 at 11:51 am #

    @Caleb,

    Blog post on this will probably be out in the next few days.

  65. Caleb June 30, 2016 at 5:23 pm #

    @Anthony

    Would you ever consider adding electability as either an issue or as a stat?
    As a stat, the base could be 100, and points be subtracted for how far away their platform is from the average American. As electability is a big factor in a primary voters decision on who to vote for, and it’s also something that some candidates (Bernie Sanders, Donald Trump, etc) get railed over fiercely, I feel that it could be represented somehow.

  66. anthony_270admin June 30, 2016 at 7:01 pm #

    – Main Screen > seats bar > primaries completed > fixed number saying how many delegates ahead first place is
    – Main Screen > ‘Primaries’ drop-down box above ‘Percentages’ drop-down box
    – Main Screen > swing button no longer displayed when in primaries viewing mode
    – fixed bug where weren’t being offered to continue playing as party’s nominee after convention
    – fixed bug with proportional seats allocation in primaries (ex., 0 votes getting 1 seat)
    – can press ‘Esc’ to hide large graph image
    – Main Screen > added keyboard shortcuts ‘p’ (view percentages), ‘s’ or ‘d’ (view seats or delegates), m (view momentum), ‘c’ (toggle view completed delegates)

  67. anthony_270admin June 30, 2016 at 7:02 pm #

    @Caleb,

    I would say electability is largely an epiphenom of other stats (such as what you pointed out – platform). So, it’s basically a way of talking about a bunch of aspects of a candidate.

  68. Caleb July 1, 2016 at 10:25 pm #

    @Anthony
    One other question (I know I’ve asked a ton, and I thank you for your quick and helpful responses to everyone, it’s amazing how much you interact with the community) Will the favorability and voting blocs eventually make their way into CI and PMI?

  69. anthony_270admin July 2, 2016 at 12:39 pm #

    – Main Screen > added keyboard shortcut ‘t’ (opens Strategy Screen)
    – Strategy Screen > added keyboard shortcut ‘Esc’ (closes screen)
    – Main Screen > fixed bug where get, ex. “Trump chooses Brown as vice-presidential candidate!”, message twice
    – fixed bug where turning off candidates in primaries would lead to incorrect general election %s

  70. anthony_270admin July 2, 2016 at 12:39 pm #

    @Caleb,

    Yes, they probably will.

    – 2016 > Veeps > Reps > Gingrich > Stamina 3 -> 2
    – 2016 > Trump > Veeps > top 5 are now Sessions, Christie, Corker, Gingrich, Pence
    – 2016 > Veeps > Reps > added Sen. Richard Burr
    – 2016 > Veeps > Dems > added Rep. Xavier Becerra
    – 2016 > Events > June 12th > Orlando > Terrorism, Trump boost
    – 2016 > Events > June 23rd > “U.K. Independence Day! Votes to leave E.U.” > Trump > Free Trade
    – 2016 > Events > May 24th > State IG report > Clinton > Integrity
    – 2016 > Events > June 30th > AG Meets Bill Clinton in private > Clinton > Integrity
    – 2016 > Events > July 1st > Clinton has met with FBI

  72. Aaron July 2, 2016 at 10:17 pm #

    Should Orlando really be a Trump boost? He received a dip in the polls and was thoroughly chastised in the media for his response. It was expected that these kind of attacks would help Trump. Since he clinched the GOP nomination, that just hasn’t born itself out.

  73. anthony_270admin July 6, 2016 at 7:09 pm #

    – if contested convention, if player had endorsed another player and then is eliminated in a round at contested convention, those delegates go to player that was endorsed
    – no longer significant pause if player withdraws or endorses
    – if candidate is also endorser and withdraws, if endorser endorses then that candidate’s delegates go to leader endorsed if contested convention
    – 2016 > Primaries > Reps > Primary Results Screen > no longer shows Democrats Abroad results at beginning of turn

  74. Rophil July 8, 2016 at 4:15 pm #

    Shouldn’t Paul Ryan official “job” (I don’t know how to say official public job, sorry, I still need to work my English 😀 ) be set from “Representative” to “Speaker”?

  75. Jonathan July 8, 2016 at 8:14 pm #

    @Anthony

    it’s weird that these events you are adding seem geared to help Trump, when he isn’t improving in the polls. I think the problem is that we have two kinds of events that are treated differently. Clinton/Democrats are hurt by historical events — such as shootings, trials, etc. Trump’s events that shoot be hurting him, are historically stupid stuff he says, which are treated only under issue knowledge and debate. Whether he knows the issues or not, he still has major verbal gaffes of the like that we have haven’t seen a presidential candidate ever say. I don’t think anyone will argue against the notion that his own mouth is the major thing keeping him below Clinton in the polls, considering all the stuff surrounding her. Should Trump’s mouth be registered events? I don’t think the built in gaffe probability is accurate for him in either power or occurrence.

    As it is, the events you’ve just made are going to artificially and ahistorically elevate Trump more likely.

  76. anthony_270admin July 9, 2016 at 11:46 am #

    @Jonathan,

    Yes, you’re right that the divide seems external-internal, and scripted events in the 2016 campaign are external events. The State IG report, the FBI director’s report, the terrorist attacks, and so on all count as external to the campaigns.

    Trump should be affected by Issue Familiarity, Debate, and Experience. These should cause more ‘gaffes’ and poor interviews. You’re probably right that these aren’t having enough of an effect in the game. I’ll think about it.

  77. anthony_270admin July 9, 2016 at 4:44 pm #

    @Rophil re Ryan’s title,

    Yes, noted. Thanks for this.

  78. anthony_270admin July 9, 2016 at 5:33 pm #

    @Aaron re Orlando being a Trump boost,

    Your comment captures it accurately – it was his response that seems to have caused the problems. The event itself supports a major theme of his campaign (extremist Islamic terrorism is a big problem).

  79. Aaron July 10, 2016 at 4:02 pm #

    @anthony

    Maybe lowering his issue familiarity to 1? And then, have a feature of the game where a candidate can respond to the event. The effect of response of the event would be dependent on issue positions, how high a profile the event is, and the candidates charisma and issue familiarity. It could be a similar thing to interviews in the game, for example. This would better capture the dynamics of this race (and any race frankly) in particular. So, if Trump would keep his mouth shut, the event would be better for him than if he opened it and put his foot in his mouth as he has proven prone to do. But, if a candidate plays as someone like a Rubio or a Romney: they events would have a better impact on the campaign as those ratings would be higher for them. That way, there would be the dynamic where the event would play better for a candidate that is more even tempered and knowledgeable to the issues and less gaff prone.

    In the 1968 scenario, the surrogate for Sen. Ernest Gruening (Alaska) is Lisa Murkowski.

    @Jesse re 1968,

    Thanks for this – noted.

  82. anthony_270admin July 12, 2016 at 6:40 pm #

    @Aaron,

    Thanks for this feedback – we’ll see. Some additional option might be useful.

  83. anthony_270admin July 20, 2016 at 6:37 pm #

    – Editor > Parties > Primaries > can now set turnout
    – 2016 > Reps > added turnout numbers
    – 2016 > Dems > added turnout numbers
    – fixed bug where if withdrawn candidate wins convention, they don’t continue
    – Primaries > only displays votes if turnout data
    – 2016 > Leaders > Reps > Paul Ryan > title ‘Rep.’ -> ‘Spkr.’
    – 2016 > Trump > Vice-Leaders > Mike Pence to 1st, Christie to 2nd, Gingrich to 3rd, Sessions to 4th
    – News > Primaries > if more than 5 contests won, says ‘so-and-so takes x contest, including a, b, and c’, where a, b, and c are the 3 with the most delegates
    – Notes > fixed bug where Big Mo’ note wasn’t in a section
    – possibly fixed bugs with freezing while processing turn
    – fixed bug where showing news for day after election

  84. anthony_270admin July 20, 2016 at 6:57 pm #

    – computer players should no longer campaign in regions where 0 seats

  85. Lucas July 20, 2016 at 8:07 pm #

    Hey did you catch the bug where it freezes up between turns, before the spin screen comes up?

  86. QuickHead555 July 20, 2016 at 10:39 pm #

    Can’t wait until this is released. I will finally be able to enjoy the next version of the game. 🙂

  87. Sean July 21, 2016 at 12:12 am #

    Have you looked into the “List index out of bounds (0)” problem that doesnt even allow me to open the game? I am extremely excited for this update and i’ hate to miss out?

  88. anthony_270admin July 21, 2016 at 12:21 pm #

    @Lucas,

    I believe the bug where it freezes between turns has been fixed. I am not able to recreate it anymore.

    @Sean,

    I will be attempting to recreate the ‘List index’ when the game starts bug. It seems to only occur on certain operating systems (Windows 8) – if you are using different operating system from Windows 8, please let me know.

  89. QuickHead555 July 21, 2016 at 2:21 pm #

    Do you have an expected release date for the update?

  90. anthony_270admin July 21, 2016 at 2:25 pm #

    @QH555,

    I’m about to attempt to replicate the ‘List index’ bug on an older machine (have had reports of Windows 8 and xp so far). Probably a new sneak-peek tomorrow, then if no major bugs official release next week.

  91. Rick July 22, 2016 at 5:03 pm #

    @anthony

    First and foremost I want to say how much I love this game. A true gem! I did have one suggestion/idea for a future update though. What about having a “randomize” option when setting up a new campaign? In that when starting a new campaign no matter who you choose (whether Sec. Hillary Clinton or Sen. Elizabeth Warren) and no matter the starting date the polling date would be completely randomized? If I were to play the above scenario as Warren right now, Clinton would have a massive lead ahead of me. Another example would be starting the general election with Trump vs Warren. By randomizing the polling data it would shake things up. And I’m sure other people have thought the same thing. And who knows maybe you could eventually “randomize” other aspects. Such as issue position data or candidate starting data. I know we have the campaign editor and I have used it to achieve somewhat of the same effect but having a one click button would far easier. Or maybe this could lead into an actual “new campaign” mode instead of playing a scenario. Imagine selecting “new campaign” and your brought to a screen where you choose which candidate you want to be and whether you want to start in the primaries or the general election. The rest of the campaign stuff is randomly selected.
    Thanks for reading this 🙂

  92. anthony_270admin July 22, 2016 at 5:33 pm #

    – fixed bug with ads when continue playing with another player
    – 2016 > Events > July 5th > Comey says Clinton ‘extremely careless’ but won’t indict

  93. anthony_270admin July 22, 2016 at 5:47 pm #

    @Rick,

    Thanks for this feedback!

    Well, I could see having a ‘randomize’ option that might create variable %s or something like that – we’ll see.

  94. Milo July 24, 2016 at 1:30 pm #

    Hey Guys, I’ve had no interviews and I’ve been playing from July to March, I won Iowa,NH and Nevada as the Democrats. Are interviews still pop ups or have they changed as other candiates I see get interviewed or appear on tv, thanks

  95. anthony_270admin July 25, 2016 at 11:44 am #

    @Milo re interviews,

    You have to click the circle on the Spin Screen with the interview number, then check the checkbox(es).

  96. Joshua July 26, 2016 at 3:35 pm #

    I think adding the WikiLeaks DNC email event should give a -1 Momentum to Democrats, -1 Momentum to Hillary Clinton, and +1 to Bernie Sanders right before convention. I have no idea if it’ll effect anyones convention outcome in their own games for Democrats but would be a good event to have.

    Also I’ve been playing the newest version 2016 and I’m having problems where The month before the primaries begin I lose my lead completely in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina with Trump and someone who’s been polling insanely low takes all of them out of nowhere. (Kasich in this example) I have no idea if I’m not campaigning right or if the game does this on purpose or unintentionally. I win all the debates and run positive ads and barnstorm with my surrogates and myself and rally heavily in those 3 states but I keep slipping in January without fail. I even win virtually every state and national endorsement on the Republican side as trump. a different gameplay I once played as Rubio and won all the early states but lost the primaries from super Tuesday on in a reverse situation.

  97. anthony_270admin July 28, 2016 at 1:30 pm #

    @Joshua re WikiLeaks,

    Yes, that sounds right to me – noted.

    Re early primaries, are you getting attacked by a significant number of other players? For example, if you check the Themes > All, are many other players attacking you in their themes?
