President Infinity Alpha v. 1.0.7

President Infinity Alpha v. 1.0.7 for Windows and Mac has been released!

Note: an Alpha release is a pre-Beta release, for people wishing to test the product. It is not complete. See notes below. This version will not overwrite your existing official release install, so you can test the Alpha release while still playing your previously installed official release.

Version Alpha 1.0.7 adds

  • added primaries (only 1 day per turn for now)
  • Election Night > fixed glitch where stops at 9pm
  • Election Night > added speed slider
  • Election Night > added pause button
  • Main Screen > added up-down arrows if > 8 candidates

I am not looking for feedback on the game unless it relates to core game functionality (basic things you can’t do in the game, crashing, bugs, things that obviously don’t look right).

You cannot load user designed campaigns. No save-load. No Editor. It may crash or have other bugs.

Installation instructions:

Mac: download (see below) and double click on the zip file once downloaded. Right click on the extracted app and select New Terminal at Folder. Type in ‘cd Contents/MacOS’, press enter. Then type in ‘chmod +x *’, press enter. Then control-click on the app. Select ‘Open’ from the context menu (this is required the first time it is run).

Windows: download (see below) the zip file > right-click > Extract all > select location for extracted folder. Once it extracts, run the President Infinity file in the extracted folder.

Windows playing notes: Use Alt + Tab to switch back to your other apps when in the game. If it hangs, use Ctrl + Alt + Del > Task Manager > Processes > Apps > Infinity > right-click > End task.

If you are a President Infinity owner on subscription (or if you purchased President Infinity within the last year), you are eligible for this upgrade (if not, you can add a subscription here).

This is a comprehensive update.

You can download this release by requesting a download at the link below. After entering your e-mail, click the link to the web page. The Alpha will be listed under ‘sneak-peek’.

  1. I think the campaigning needs to be reexamined. I think, especially with all that’s going on in this Presidential cycle but really it will be in all cycles going forward regardless, there should be more of an emphasis on online campaigning. It is ok to keep the barnstorming and rallies but maybe add things like “Social Media Ads” “Virtual events”, voter targeting (similar to Obama’s 2012 digital team) I just think in today’s campaigns there is more of an emphasis on digital campaigns even without the pandemic that television ads are kind of becoming outdated but still have somewhat of an impact but most people are getting involved with campaigns and learning through online applications and social media. Just a thought for the content.

  2. @Kurtis,

Yes, some aspects of campaigning will change. But the first goal of the port is to port the existing game to a new technological framework. Once that’s done, I’ll be making some modifications re campaigning.

  3. @Christopher,

Thank you for your patience on this – your e-mail re a double subscription should be processed today.

  4. @Pang,

My best guess at this point is it is something to do with Windows 7. If someone else reports a similar problem, that might help in figuring out what is causing it. The problem is that Windows 7 isn’t used commonly.

  5. The getting stuck on a date thing is fixed, but still having the issue where you can’t use a running mate to do anything. (The CPU running mate appears to be working just fine)

  6. Very close on another update. This one will add Veep activities, Surrogate activities, 7 days per turn, activity labels and edit buttons, and more. It will also be the first release as a Beta. Probably Monday.

  7. Has a lot of potential, definitely! But I hope that there will be at the very least hover captions for the buttons so I know what I’m doing before I do it.

Also, I wonder if we will finally get some sort of tutorial to help us understand the more complex parts of the game, things like Barnstorm vs. Rally, how to choose issues for these things and ads, what all the numbers on those screens are, etc.

  8. @David,

Yes, hover help is on the to-do list.

Yes, better help is also on the to-do list.

  9. @Greg,

At this point, the major things left to be done are highscores, save-load, full user-designed campaigns compatibility, and Editor.

I don’t know how long it will take before the Beta becomes an official release. The next update (the first considered Beta instead of Alpha) will probably be today.

For highscores and user-designed campaign compatibility, perhaps a few days.

For save-load, perhaps a couple weeks.

For Editor, I don’t know. It’s a major app just on its own. It will probably take a few weeks to port all the UI code (the XML code has already been ported).

    These are just guesses.
