President Infinity – v. 3.3.1

Note: 3.1.1j is now ‘President Infinity Classic’. 3.3.1 is the latest official.

Where we’re going from here.

  1. Continue expanding Editor capabilities.
  2. Continue updating official 2020 campaign.
  3. Continue adding new features.

President Infinity v. 3.3.1 for Windows and Mac has been released!

This release fixes 3 bugs, adds Covid-19 as an issue for 2020, removes the Oct. 15th debate, adds dropdown boxes and search to the Ads Screen, adds auto spin to the Options Screen, adds the Editor Issue Screen (fully functional), and more!

Note: if you have campaigns you have made from President Infinity Classic, it is recommended that you back these up first. Although there should be no problems loading and playing them, this simply errs on the side of caution. If the campaign formatting is unknown, the campaign will be re-written to disk using the new formatting without backing up the original version. If a campaign XML file’s syntax has to be updated, it will backup automatically, however.

See notes below. This version will not overwrite your existing Classic (3.1.1j) release install (if applicable), so you can play the new official version while still playing your previously installed Classic version.

Version 3.3.1 adds

  • Primaries > fixed bug where would crash if ex. Schultz, or only Biden ‘on’ for Democratic primaries, is human player
  • Spin Screen > fixed bug where didn’t reset interviewers index (might solve bug where interviewers screen blank late in game)
  • Barnstorming and Rallies > fixed bug where would say wrong momentum
  • Ads Screen > added tooltips
  • Ads Screen > added ‘All Ads’ button
  • Ads Screen > can now select region from dropdown box, as well as search
  • Editor > added Editor Issues Screen (fully functional)
  • Options > added Auto Spin and Auto Spin – Surrogates
  • 2020 > added Covid-19 as issue
    • profile > Low primaries start, Very High general election start
    • party positions > Republicans > Center-Right, Democrats > Center-Left, Libertarians > Right, Green > Left, Schultz > Center-Left
    • leader positions > generally same as party positions
    • regional centres > largely follow Role of Government issue centres
    • events > added 3 events, each raises issue profile by 1 (Feb. 27th, March 16th, April 11th)
    • 2020 > removed Oct. 15th debate (will add back in when add Accept or Decline Debate feature)
  • Campaign designers > press ‘z’ on the Select Campaign Screen for a minimal start (2 parties, if primaries then 2 candidates at most for each of the first 2 parties)
  • Options Screen > added Help button, goes to President Infinity Manual web page (currently includes link to ‘Game guides, tutorials, and tips forum’ and ‘President Infinity Classic Help File’)

Limited Editor. Save-load is considered an experimental feature right now (slow for typical games starting in the primaries, with save times in the minutes for a typical 2020 primaries start, and loads multiples of that).

  1. When do you think the editor will be mostly functional? Able to edit region and map, create events, stuff like that

  2. the issue with the interviewers screen blank late in game is totally fixed.

same issue still however when I get to November 3rd in 2020. playing as yang the game freezes on “processing turn” and says Monday November 2nd, 2020 and “-2147483648%” underneath it. Totally freezes the game and can’t see final results.

Played a 2012 scenario and this did not occur and saw results in real time, only seems to be in the 2020 campaign. please fix, thank you.

  3. Any idea when the save load feature will be fully up and running. I only have a Mac so can only use this version – still not being able to save load renders the game usesless

  4. @John,

Thanks for this feedback! Are you starting the game that freezes with Yang in primaries or general?

  5. @JB,

Please note if playing a game you can also keep the app running and sleep your computer (with laptops) if you want to pause the game.

Save-load will probably be fully functional once the new polling system is implemented. Might be a couple months.

  6. Loving the various additions! Quick question/wish:

Could we have the possible option to change the background color on the Campaign Editor screen, for those who have vision issues (me) who are better suited to the black background of CI/PI Classic’s dark editor?

Also, in the future is there a possiblity that with the full screen ability of both US Infinity games, will those of us who make the user campaigns have the ability to insert bigger sized maps, since we have more screen room?

Thanks in advance for the reply, if any!

  7. Note you can toggle between fullscreen and windowed by Alt+Enter (Windows) or Command+F (Mac). I’ll probably add an Options Screen toggle box to the next version to also do this.

  8. @Supreme Incompetent Leader,

    1. I’ll look into this. My guess is this is not that straightforward.

    2. In the future, all the customizable graphics probably will get the option to have higher resolution source images. This will include maps.

  9. Anthony,

I have noticed it’s much harder for the smaller candidates to compete on a General Election basis. I have the following scenario:

    General Election:
    Candidate A: 34%
    Candidate B: 24%
    Candidate C: 18%
    Candidate D: 18%
    Me: 6%

    Election Day:
    Candidate A: 27.9%
    Candidate B: 23.2%
    Candidate C: 18.1%
    Candidate D: 17.5%
    Me: 13.3%

Why is this generating when in previous versions of the game I was abble to not only win, but with a landslide? I mean the electorate is not fluctuating a lot.

  10. Hi,

I’m new to President Infinity 2020 and these are what I’ve noticed:

    1. No sound.
    2. No text box when hovering mouse over certain icons like in state Electoral Vote Info and Strategy screens. (would be helpful)
    3. Can’t click on Platform info in Platform screen for full description. (would also be very helpful)

Will these features be reimplemented? Thanks.

  11. @Don,

Thanks for this! 2. and 3. will probably be added for next update.

Sound will take awhile to implement. It will be a complete overhaul from President Infinity Classic.

  12. I’m having problems downloading this, I never had this issue with the previous updates. And when are you going to update the fundraising? Both candidates don’t have enough money.

  13. Will there be an ability to decrease font sizes? On my laptop the fonts are pretty huge and have some overlap in some scenarios.

  14. Not sure you’re aware of this but in the general election in game, whether starting from the primaries or from the general election start, and no matter the scenario, the polarization levels are ridiculously high. Polls do not budge at all in the general election and the person who is in the lead at the start of the general election stage always wins. Not sure if this is happening for anyone else but thought i’d raise it.

  15. @Toby that’s not true. You have to build an organization, have enough money to have ATTACK ads and barnstorm a lot. I’ve been down by 4-5 pts at the general and still won

  16. @Toby,

I’ve noted this to look out for while game testing. However, %s do have a tendency to ‘snap back’ to where they are at the start, that’s by design.

  17. I found out what the problem was the President Infinity (Mac) Classic link which is the second link on the list you have to update doesn’t work. The first one works to update on mac.

  18. This is just an idea but is there any way we could have on the end election screen a break down of money spent in the state by campaigns? Im sure it would be hard but would be very cool to see where the candidates spent money?

  19. @Berg,

That would be interesting – we’ll see. I would like to update graphs in general, adding more data about things like expenditures, where campaigned, and so on.

  20. Sorry, I may not have articulated myself well. The problem is that the polling percentages barely move AT ALL (only infinitesimally) throughout the general election campaign no matter who does or does not have momentum. I’ll add that I am playing on Mac, so that may have something to do with it.

  21. I should also add that even with high undecided numbers (say, 30 percent nationally), the voters tend to just mirror the polls and no real movement happens.

  22. @Toby,

No difference in how the game engine works Mac vs. Windows – exact same code.

I’ll keep a look out for this while play testing.

  23. Hi. I’ve noticed a couple more things:

There is an issue with advertising. After I decide on an ad and close out before creating it, The game thinks it’s created and a command point is used up. I can’t find the ad in the ad screen and there is no way I can get the command point back. There is multiple instances of the name “United States” or the name of a state in the list of ads window.

Why is Texas blue when I start the game on September 1st? In the real 2020 campaign I don’t think it ever went blue.

  24. @Don,

Re ads, thanks for this – I’ll test this.

Re TX, the poll %s could use some tweaking for Sep. 1st. Feedback re TX noted.

Yes, graphs will be added back in at some point.
